Bran Hambric The Farfield Curse Kaleb Nation Brandon Dorman 0760789224379 Books

Of course, I always say the writing can be better (and that is where Artemis Fowl wins between the two) but there is something about this book that I really enjoyed. The character, unlike Artemis, is a little easier to relate too. Even though this book involves magic (although Artemis does too) the character is a lot closer to your average teen kid going through some dramatic rough patches. Artemis... he's just a brat genius. Sure, loveable... but not really relatable. I thought that despite the fact that the writing could have use a tinsy tiny bit of work, it was well done. The story was gripping and I thought that the slower parts weren't too bad at all, it just made the more exciting parts that much more exciting. I wouldn't rate it in my top ten favorites... but my top ten favorites are just amazing books (Hunger Games, Pendragon, Alex Rider etc.) So, for his first book, I think Kaleb did a very good job. I gave it 4/5 stars purely because I am an English major and I feel I have to be critical of writing all the time :D

So, is it really better than artemis fowl? On a whole, I would have to say it comes in second place, but relatability to the main character... this one takes 1st by a mile :)

Bran Hambric The Farfield Curse Kaleb Nation Brandon Dorman 0760789224379 Books Reviews

I loved it! The book has a very interesting universe. Humans with jobs, cars and guns. Dysfunctional families, people that is more than meets the eye. The whole world is set to start a great adventure Bran is a great boy and you connect with him right away.
I like that it also leaves enough room for a sequel and still is a self contained story.
Wonderful book for boys. There are not many like this one out there.
Bran Hambric The Farfield Curse by Kaleb Nation is a fun, entertaining read that's perfectly suited to the Independent Reader age category. The plot is well-crafted, with just enough mystery at the beginning to keep you reading, and it continues to pick up from there.

There are also several interesting details which set Bran's world apart from many other fantasy novels, making it more accessible to modern readers. My personal favorite was the existence of anti-gnome propaganda. (When you consider potential real-world equivalents, it's a surprisingly mature theme for a YA book, and some thoughtful commentary from the characters helps to put that in perspective.) The theme of choice pervades the entire novel and creates a nice contrast between Bran and his mother, arguably the book's most important characters.

However, my favorite part of the book is its side characters. Mr. Nation has outdone himself in creating loveable and funny characters that every reader will enjoy getting to know. Several of my favorites include Sewey, a bumbling banker who is constantly shouting nonsensical ideas; Adi, his intelligent assistant whom everyone assumes is perfectly normal (but is she?); and Baldretta, the little sister nobody can understand (but I personally believe has plans to take over the world, or at least become its leading chemical pyrotechnist).

Overall, Bran Hambric The Farfield Curse is a promising debut, well-suited to younger readers who love mystery, magic, and above all else, an entertaining story. I eagerly await the sequel.
I bought an ARC of this book on ebay for 65 dollars (even though my parents were a little mad that I spent that much on a book XD) and it was totally worth every cent of it. This is actually one of the best books that I have read in quite awhile. I am sure that if you are reading this review you have most likely read the book bio so I won't bore you with that (if you haven't go do it).

I have heard Kaleb read from this book quite a few times (just got done listening to him read now actually) and ever since the first time, I fell in love with it. It is filled with magic, action, adventure, everything that a good YA book should have.

Before I bought the ARC I hadn't read any of the preview chapters that Kaleb has on his website but I had been reading his blogs for Twilight Guy for a little over 6 months. I absolutely LOVE his writing style, that was the main reason I was so eager to read his book. Not to mention I love to read books by people my age, I am 19 and Kaleb is almost 21. It's really inspiring to me since I am also currently writing a book. I hope that one day I will be weeks away from my first novel finally coming out and asking people to come write reviews and reading from my book on blogtv.

Kaleb is also so amazing. He is a great person and that's also another reason why I had wanted his book so bad. I love reading books by people who I have talked to. I don't know why but it makes reading the story more personal.

Some ending thoughts on this book, I really believe that everyone should buy this book. Especially if you like books such as Harry Potter, you will love Bran Hambric. But, hey, if you are still skeptical if you should buy this or not, go to his website [...] and download the preview chapters. There you will find the prologue and the first four chapters of Kaleb's book.

I hope that everyone who has bought/read this book enjoys it and leaves their own reviews!

Much love Kaleb and congrats on everything! You truely deserve it!!!
