In the tradition of books that rhyme and have songs within a song, Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose is easy to read aloud or sing to simple made-up tunes. My children love the humor of the Princess' giant feet and Prince's huge schnaz, and they like that these unusual characteristics don't impede the love story. My children have all gone through a bit of a princess phase in early childhood, so I have worked hard to find books that have positive messages and that defy the stereotype of distressed damsels. This book wins on those scores, but even if one were not trying to make a princess statement, it's a good children's book. The illustrations are bright and lovely and humorous without being cruel to the characters. The rhyme is not cloying. And one of my favorite features is that both hero and heroine have wise, kind parents who guide them. It's a great bedtime story, like a kid version of a cozy paperback.

Ten Big Toes and a Prince Nose Nancy Gow Stephen Costanza 9781402763960 Books Reviews

This is a really fun book for kids and helps them feel good about their perceived shortcomings. With so much of the media pushing perfect bodies and all that junk, this story is a great way to counter-balance the natural tendency of a kid to feel like they just don't measure up.

The story is cute and the illustrations are wonderful. Great use of dramatic composition and beautifully colored, this book has a cinematic feel to it. I've been following Stephen Costanza's work since "Mozart finds a melody" and he just gets better and better.

This is a wonderful book for children, my kids love it!
Written in rhyme, Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose is the story of a beautiful princess with unusually large feet, and a witty prince with an unusually large nose. Having both faced rejection from potential spouses throughout their lives, both are blessed with a parent who encourages them to stay true to who they are. When at last they meet each other, it's love, even when their unusual traits are revealed to one another.

This is a great story with a lovely fairy-tale type theme that encourages self-acceptance and also the acceptance of others who may have unique traits and characteristics. What really make it stand out are the incredibly luscious illustrations. Rendered in richly saturated jewel tones, Stephen Costanza's artwork has a feathery, soft-focus feeling that lends itself well to the fairy-tale setting.

This is so sappy, and it's all written in rhyme though it really doesn't need to be.

There's a beautiful princess, but nobody wants to marry her, because she's got big feet, and that's all everybody can see when they look at her. Her mother sings her a song every night about how being yourself is awesome.

Far away, there's a prince who has a giant nose, so nobody wants to marry him. The prince's father sings to him the exact same song as the princess's mother sings.

The prince and princess are awesome people, but nobody can see past their physical abnormalities to find out. One day, they are both skiing in the French Alps, and they meet. He's wearing a scarf, so she can't see his nose, and she's not using skis because her feet can apparently suddenly become pointy instead of broad whenever she chooses. They talk, and fall in love. They each realize with trepidation that they must reveal their weird body parts to the other, and both are relieved upon finding the other's deformities. They get married. The end.

It's just kind of dumb. It doesn't have a bad message, but I was disappointed by this book. I was hoping based on the summary that it would be more interesting, rather than just, 'Hey these people met and fell in love and then they're happy.' It wasn't clever. It wasn't inventive. It was pretty run-of-the-mill. A good message, but not interesting enough to hold my attention.

Message Don't judge people by their appearance.
Great story! Lovely illustrations. Both my kids love it (2 and 4)
It was in great condition! Very pleased
Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose is a great book for opening the door to conversation with a child about outer and inner beauty. Recommended for parents and grandparents
We love this book. Great meaning and a fun easy rhyme to make it sing off of your tongue! Highly recommend. We have been reading this to my now 4 year old boy for a year or so.
